Back in May, Culver & Glass Optometrists donated a £250 designer sunglasses voucher towards the charity duck race held in Birstall!
Held every year, members of the community purchase small rubber ducks and race them down the river for prizes donated by local businesses! This year, 2175 rubber ducks were entered into the race and over £4,300 was raised in total – the chosen charity was Save The Children for their centenary year with the remainder of funds raised going to local causes!
Josephine Burgess, Save The Children representative and a patient at Culver & Glass, helped to organise the event after holding a bi-annual lunch for Save The Children at The White Horse since 2013! As 2019 marked the charity’s 100th year, the duck race seemed the perfect opportunity to do something special!
She said of the event, "We are so grateful for the support shown throughout the whole duck race process. From those who donated prizes, the local supporters that sold Ducks and people who bought them. Thank you to the helpers who contributed, fellow clubs and societies that donated takings and once again our gratitude to those who manned the stalls on the day. Finally, thank you to all the White Horse team for putting together such a wonderful community event.”
An amazing £3415 was donated to Save The Children, a charity supporting the health, safety and well-being of children across the globe and Culver & Glass are delighted to have been a part of this fantastic charity event.
