Shyam goes to Zambia for Vision Aid Overseas
We are delighted that our Optometrist Shyam Lakhani is going on a two week assignment with Vision Aid Overseas in June.
Shyam is off to Zambia to provide eye examinations and spectacles to those less fortunate and in remote areas. He said: “Working with Vision Aid Overseas is a long standing ambition of mine. As a fully qualified Optometrist practising in the UK where excellent levels of eye care are readily available to all, this is a cause that lies close to my heart. I’m really pleased to have the full support of the Glass and Glass team in helping me achieve this.”
“As fully qualified Optometrists, we have the skills and resources to correct vision and screen for serious eye disease. We will be working in a team of six, visiting remote towns and villages to provide large numbers of people with access to eye care. Our efforts will allow huge numbers of people to attend and leave with their sight and potentially lives transformed.”
The aim of the project is to make a real impact on lives of people in rural areas, for example:
· Providing a child with glasses so he/she can for example see the board at school and gain a good education
· Providing a community nurse with a pair of reading glasses so he/she can continue caring for the local community.
Shyam’s fiancée Dulari is also an Optometrist and she will be working on the same project. Together they need to raise £3000 for Vision Aid Overseas. We are asking if patients would add £5 to the cost of their new glasses when they pay, which will pay for an eye examination and spectacles for a child. Alternatively, we have collecting tins in practice or you can go to their JustGiving page: https://www.justgiving.com/ShyamDulari
For every pound raised by our patients in practice the company will match it.
Vision Aid Overseas is an international charity dedicated to fighting poverty by transforming access to eye care in developing countries. 10% (640 million) of the world’s population are visually impaired because they cannot get the glasses they need. Please help us raise the money for this worthwhile project.
